Get the crew together on game day and cook up some mean beer brats. Now, we aren’t talking about cooking small franks, in order for this to work you have to go all out with the biggest, baddest brats you can find! Heck, you can even use Kielbasa for this recipe, whatever you use, make it matter!
There’s only one rule to cooking these brats: USE CRAFT BEER.
Simple as that. Sure, the recipe “works” with the other stuff, but that’s like throwing stagnant pond water into the bot. So, use craft beer. You’ll thank us.
Now, let’s get to cooking.
- 4 cans/bottles of craft beer (we used a craft lager for this one)
- 1 large, diced, white onion
- 10 brats
- Pack of potato buns
- Red pepper flakes
- Garlic powder
- Salt + Pepper
Get a large pot (the bigger the better) and carefully dump the craft beer into the pot. Toss in the diced onion, red pepper flakes, garlic salt, and salt + pepper.
Now add the main attraction, the brats! Make sure these suckers are fully submerged in the beer. Bring this brat, onion, spices concoction to a boil.
Once boiling, bring the heat down to a medium and slow cook for about 12 minutes. This will give the brats enough time to marinate in all those tasty flavors. Once that time is up, pull the brats out, and throw them on a grill. Keep the onions for throwing on the brats later.
Grill brats for about 5-10 minutes until cooked. Do not overcook these guys. I repeat, do NOT overcook them… you’ll lose all those dope flaves! Meanwhile, with the grill is still hot, throw your buns on the top rack to get a little toasted!
You’re done! Stuff the brat in the toasted bun, throw some onions on top, add some spicy brown mustard, crack open another craft beer for drinking, and you’re ready to watch the game!
